Eager Beaver Staff Take Part in Training Days

IMG_7651Excited staffers spent enjoyable and productive hours this week – on Saturday and again on Tuesday – enthusiastically gearing up for the arrival of campers and the commencement of Session One. Early last Saturday morning, program directors led new counselors, specialists and lifeguards in activities and games to acquaint them further with the campus and camp traditions. A little later that morning, this summer’s entire staff gathered to meet new staff, reconnect with old friends, and prepare for their favorite season. Again this summer, over 75% of summer staff members are happily returning to work at the best summer program around!

Fun facts about this year’s training sessions in the form of an acrostic poem:

Building Character – Beaver Summer staff reviewed our commitment to fostering a multitude of character strengths among their beloved campers including zest, grit, humor, and kindness, among many others.

Everyone – In a traditional and staff favorite event, all staff members participated in a massive game of Rock, Paper, Scissors – representing our attention to unity, fun, and spirit during our training days.

Alligators – Staff members were assigned to animal groupings on Saturday to participate in games and activities, a clear indication of our young-at-heart manner and leading by example. Other animals included Moose, Zebras, Frogs, Pigs, and Sharks, to name a few.

Versatility – Our highly skilled and energetic staffers merrily spent time this week assisting one another in unpacking boxes, setting up rooms, building teamwork, previewing safety procedures, fashioning signs, sharing innovative ideas, and discussing best summer camp practices.

Enthusiasm – In one highlight from this summer’s training, all new staff members officially and symbolically joined returning staff by entering the gym and running through two rows of returning employees, where they were warmly and enthusiastically met with high fives and boisterous cheers.

Responsibility – Training activities concentrated on our valuable and effective program goals that include, in addition to Responsibility, Friendship, Independence, Teamwork, Interest in Exploration, Problem-solving Confidence, and Camp Connectedness.
